Wyoming Council of the Blind Marks White Cane Awareness Day at Capitol

The Wyoming Council of the Blind gathered at the Capitol for a proclamation reading, recognizing October 15, 2024 as White Cane Awareness Day.  President Cheryl Godley emphasized the importance of advocacy for the visually impaired and raising awareness among sighted individuals.  She explained the importance of Friday’s gathering. "This is pretty exciting because what it does is, it's an opportunity to advocate on behalf of people with visual impairments. The white cane allows us to navigate our environment and be oriented to what is around us. And then the white cane also serves as a reminder to people who are sighted, to be more aware and more considerate."

Thank you Natrona Collective Health Trust

We want to express our sincere gratitude to Natrona Collective Health Trust for approving a very generous boost grant to fund the completion of our website projects: updating our website with new features including a searchable resource list, searchable Sightings archive, Facebook presence, and much more. This assists us in our mission to inform, educate, encourage, and support those with visual impairments or blindness.

A Generous Donation

thank youDan Grace, of Casper, donated $2,000 to WyCB in March.

Dan Grace moved to Wyoming to pursue a job as a pilot for a Caterpillar dealer in Casper. He worked in that position for 35.5 years. When he started his position, he flew “tiny” planes, and over the years the size of the planes he flew, grew. “Aviation was my life”. Over time, he stopped instructing others on flying aircraft, and has now stopped flying planes himself. Now, his focus is to “care for people who themselves have problems”. He remembers as a child, his mother reading for blind persons. He recognizes the significance of vision loss and the challenges associated with it.

Thank you Dan for your generous donation!
